Canada fires: Alberta oil firms to restart production: current events #7

News article: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-36264260 and http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2016/may/11/canada-wildfire-environmental-impacts-fort-mcmurray

Who: Fort Mcmurray

What: A wildfire took place

Where:North East Alberta,Canada

When; 2nd May and still ongoing

Why: There has been a climate change and because of how dry some places were this help the wildfire spread.

On 2nd of may a huge wildfire started which had spread and is still ongoing. This happened in Northeast Alberta,Canada. The wildfire was much easier to spread due to climate change and luckily nobody was killed but more than 80,000 people were evacuated last week. 2,400 homes and building have been burnt down, while the fire is still spreading it has been said it likely would be burning for months. This has said to be the most expensive natural disaster in Canadian history as insurance costs is running into billions of dollars. It has been said that the blaze covers approximately 1,610 sq km which is huge.

I think this is an important story because this is a natural disaster and natural disasters are generally tragic especially if people were killed or injured in anyway. Luckily nobody died in this incident but I it is important for whoever reads this to know this is reality and things like this happen, maybe they might make some environmental changes or safety backup plans in case something like this happens again and hopefully other countries will participate in helping out.
